About UsBlondie Mania was born in September 2005 when partners, Helen and Gerard, decided to embark on a business venture together. After a stint travelling around the Far East and striking up a friendship with a Thai husband and wife with a family run factory, the pair became involved in what was set to be quite a remarkable journey……… Helen was at the time in the final throws of qualifying as a Solicitor, when she decided to abandon her 9-5 job to fulfil a life long passion for design and fashion. Gerard; already an entrepreneur, brought his commercial skills, wit and experience to the table, giving Helen encouragement to get the business off the ground. Helen's nickname, 'Blondie', fondly adopted by Gerard, had by now firmly stuck and so the catchy name 'Blondie Mania' simply fell into place. Together with their newfound friends they all worked around the clock and the first Blondie Mania leather handbag collection was launched in the autumn of 2005. “It was a very small capsule collection as it all still felt very experimental and new,” explains Helen. Well the experiment was a big hit. Boutiques, department stores and consumers alike were all drawn to the quirky simplicity of the designs, the sumptuous soft leather and the vibrant pink lining. Both bringing unique and individual attributes into the business have enabled Helen and Gerard to offer something that remains a lust after item for the most discerning fashionista, yet practical and functional for the everyday working woman and/or Mum. Within their first year they were in boutiques all over the UK as well as supplying a line for the Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair. Today, Blondie Mania supplies around 300 stores in the UK and Europe including Fenwick, Bond Street, as well as other Fenwick stores. Sitting somewhere in between the high street and the designer market, Blondie Mania offers decadence and longevity from a handbag that does not come with a ridiculous price tag. Gerard will readily admit it is Helen that likes to add the quirky details such as the pink lining, or the beautiful coloured leathers that change seasonally. Yet Helen is happy to give Gerard the credit for the practical elements that make the bags work in everyday life. Blondie Mania bags are certainly not just a showpiece; when treated with the love they deserve they will bring many years of enjoyment. The other great inspiration behind Blondie Mania are the now long term friends in Thailand who they work together with in a factory that employs family and friends and who remain a closely knit network, with everyone taking so much pride in their work. “They make it all happen and we will always be grateful for meeting them and for all they have taught us,” comments both Helen and Gerard. With the foundations now firmly cemented Blondie Mania continues to go from strength to strength, so what is on the horizon we wonder……………… If the last four years are anything to go by we can guarantee it will be nothing short of heart made! |
